Why choose Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu over other martial arts for
your child?
While Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a comprehensive martial art that
addresses striking, takedowns and grappling, we focus on teaching
kids to use leverage and technique to subdue their opponents without
using punching or kicking. This method allows students to maximize
their strengths, even if they are faced with a bigger, stronger
opponent. Because we teach self-defense without striking, our
students are able to effectively keep themselves safe, without
having to resort to striking an opponent.

Our Kids’ Program Instructors
Finding a good kids’ instructor can
be challenging. Fortunately, you need only to walk in the door at
McMahon BJJ to find two of the state’s most respected instructors at
your service.
Tessa McMahon, the Academy’s Head Kids Program Professor, has been
working with children for 8 years as a middle school teacher and as
a BJJ kids instructor. She’s the perfect balance for kids at any
level as she’s a two-time Pan American champion and a
well-respected, well-liked school teacher.
Finnie McMahon has been teaching kids’ Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for more
than 7 years. He began teaching in Boulder at Easton BJJ in 2002
and, in two years, was running the entire program. In 2006, when he
and wife,
Tessa
McMahon came to Ft. Collins to open the McMahon BJJ Academy, the
pair chose to expand on the kids’ program curriculum because
children learn so much more than just self-defense techniques in
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. It is their mission to empower kids and to
teach them to stand up straight and look people in the eye.
Together, Finnie and Tessa McMahon have developed a system of
instruction and “mat talks” that help kids of all sizes and weight
feel more successful, accepted and confident.
What are parent saying about our programs?
“McMahon’s
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has helped our son in every area of his life.”
Our son has had the privilege of taking Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu from
Finnie McMahon for the past three years. Jiu-Jitsu has helped our
son in every area of his life from schoolwork, discipline, and
respect, to self-esteem and coordination. Finnie has an amazing
rapport with children. He is able to combine his expertise in
Jiu-Jitsu with patience, kindness and encouragement. He creates the
perfect atmosphere for kids to learn and love Jiu-Jitsu. We highly
recommend McMahon BJJ!

“Thanks to
McMahon Jiu-Jitsu, my skinny video game junkie kids have transformed
into healthy, confident, respectful kids!”
McMahon Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academyin Ft. Collins is the best place
to perfect your Jiu-Jitsu skills! Professor Finnie and Coach Tessa
McMahon along with a great staff have created the perfect atmosphere
for martial arts training. The McMahon’s are both full-time
blackbelts and, each day, they teach practical, effective
self-defense techniques along with physical fitness and valuable
life lessons.
About a year ago, we enrolled our boys in McMahon Brazilian
Jiu-Jitsu Academy, and they have since been transformed from two
skinny video game junkies into healthy confident, respectful kids.
The transformation has been dramatic! The values instilled in them
from the Junior Grapplers program are obvious. My 8 and 10-year-old
kids have grown physically, and mentally but – more importantly –
I’ve seen their self-esteem, self-respect and respect for others
grow by leaps. Not only has the training helped them in Brazilian
Jiu-Jitsu, but in every day life as well. The increase in confidence
has inspired them to do things that they may not have ordinarily
done, like star in a school musical, or even compete and do very
well in a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competition. They also have great
camaraderie with newfound, like-minded friends.

(And so do we.)”

“Jiu-Jitsu is jus
one of the valuable lessons McMahon BJJ teaches our children”
“We wanted to express our heartfelt gratitude for the fantastic job
you do at Easton BJJ. Our children have gained a passion for
Jiu-Jitsu, and they've learned valuable life lessons that will serve
them long after they leave this academy and as they travel their
journey through life. They've learned how to take care of themselves
while taking care of others, whom to go to for help, and how to exit
certain situations that are harmful to them. We truly appreciate all
you have done and will miss you as you move on to pursue your dream
of your own academy."
