Professor
Finnie McMahon
Owner, McMahon Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Ft. Collins, Colorado
The owner of the fast-growing BJJ Academy in Ft. Collins and a full-time
black belt instructor and mentor, Professor Finnie McMahon was first
introduced to martial arts at the age of 10 through Kenpo Karate.
After kayak instructing for three years in Crested Butte, Finnie
rediscovered his passion for martial arts and began training Brazilian
Jiu-Jitsu in Santa Fe, New Mexico under the instruction of Professor Alberto
Crane, a black belt under Vinicius Draculino Magaelhes.
In 2001, Finnie moved to Boulder and began studying under
Professor Amal Easton, a
Renzo Gracie black belt. From
there, he managed the Easton Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy in Boulder for
three years, while competing and training in BJJ and MMA. He emerged quickly
on the scene, snagging first place honors at the 2001 American International
championships, and has since continued to make a name for himself in
national and international top-name events. McMahon’s success culminated at
the 2009 Pan American championships in California where he won the gold
medal in the Brown Belt division and was awarded his Black Belt on the
podium by Professor Amal Easton.
Upon meeting Master Renzo Gracie for the first time in 2004, Finnie was so
impressed with him that he travels to New York twice a year to train under
Master Renzo and the RGA team. Because of this dedication, MacMahon
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is an official
Renzo
Gracie Affiliate school.

Professor
Tessa McMahon
Owner, McMahon Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Ft. Collins, Colorado
The only female Jiu-Jitsu black belt in Colorado today, Tessa
McMahon began her search for the most realistic form of self-defense
as a senior at CU in 2001. She found it at Easton Brazilian Jiu
Jitsu in Boulder, where she quickly flourished in the art of BJJ –
Tessa McMahon was the first American woman to win the Pan-American
gold medal for two consecutive years, and was ranked the #1 female
in her weight class in 2005.
After graduating from college, Tessa became a middle school Spanish
teacher, and taught for five years in Aurora, Co. During that time,
she continued to train BJJ under Professor Amal Easton, and competed
successfully in various BJJ tournaments around the world.
In 2004, Finnie and Tessa were married, and two years later, decided
to dedicate their lives to BJJ through opening the McMahon Brazilian
Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Fort Collins, Colorado. While Tessa instructs
women and men of all ages and abilities in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, she
is also the Head Children’s Professor for the Academy’s rapidly
growing circle of boys and girls learning the finest art in
self-defense technique. In the summer of 2009, after 8 years of
training Tessa was awarded her Black Belt by Professor Amal Easton.

Instructors
Instructor
Alastair MacDonald
McMahon Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Ft. Collins
Before Alastair MacDonald discovered the art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
or found his way to MacMahon BJJ in Ft. Collins, he was a
professional hunter and Zambezi whitewater Kayak Guide in Zimbabwe,
Africa. In 2001, Alastair moved to the United States, where he met
and began training with Professor Amal Easton, head instructor of
Easton BJJ. After training for exactly three weeks, he entered a
local grappling tournament and was completely destroyed … and he has
been hooked ever since!
Business choices led Alastair and his family to Portland, Maine,
where he reconnected with Professor Jay Jack, a black belt under
Professor Easton. He received his Blue and Purple belts from
Professor Jack at his Academy of Mixed Martial Arts. After five long
years in Maine, he moved back to Colorado and life in Fort Collins,
where he began training with good friends and old training partners
from Boulder, BJJ black belt Professors Finnie and Tessa McMahon.
A Bronze medalist at the 2007 NAGA North American Championships,
MacDonald finds Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu a source of endless fascination,
whether it is teaching, coaching, strategizing game plans, or
analyzing an opponent’s game. For Alastair, being able to teach or
assist others in their own development at the MacMahon BJJ Academy
is one of the many privileges in life - others being, a proud
husband to bride, Delia, and father to two mini-grapplers, Abigail
and Angus. Alistair MacDonald currently holds the rank of brown
belt.
Coach
Jason George
began training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in January of 2006
with Coach Larry King, a black belt under
Professor Amal Easton. In
December of 2006, he joined us here at MacMahon’s Brazilian Jiu
Jitsu Academy and has assisted in instructing men, women and
children in BJJ ever since.
Jason’s passion for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu stems from how mentally and
physically engaging it is. In addition, he loves how the sport is
capable of transforming one’s character through humility (everyone
taps!) and comraderie (you can’t learn without good partners). When
not training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Jason spends his free time with
his family of five, friends and church community. He currently holds
the rank of purple belt.
Now
a favorite instructor at MacMahon BJJ Academy, Roy Page began
training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in March 2007 at McMahon BJJ just two
weeks after his children started training.
As a white belt, Roy immersed himself in the basic fundamentals of
BJJ and, upon earning his blue belt, began successfully competing.
Roy has competed in both gi and no-gi BJJ. With black belt
Professors Finnie and Tessa as his mentors, Roy also began teaching
classes at our Ft. Collins Academy in 2008. Now, he proudly trains,
teaches and competes for McMahon BJJ and holds the rank of blue
belt.
